Toyota’s Land Cruiser light truck was originally developed for military applications hence its rugged and purposeful appearance. The familiar J40 series was introduced in 1960 and the North American FJ40 version was produced through the early 1980’s. Ruggedly built and patterned after the American Jeep and British Land Rover, the FJ40 Land Cruiser quickly established a stellar world-wide reputation for go anywhere capability and cast-iron reliability.
Distinctive in appearance with its slab sides and tall greenhouse, the bodywork sits on a ladder frame with a 4.2 liter (258 cubic inch) in-line six-cylinder carbureted gasoline engine, four speed transmission, transfer case, and four-wheel drive. The interior is purposeful with vinyl seat coverings and “hose-out” capability.
Today, the FJ40 Land Cruiser is well supported by aftermarket parts companies as well as several firms dedicated to the restoration and upgrading of the FJ40 in particular. VIN #FJ40245324
